Trauma and periods
Dear Dr. Amy,
In December I suffered a head concussion, and ten days later slipped on my steps resulting in a nasty fall and the worst bruises I have had in my life. This all has happened since my last menstral cycle, and now I am on day 38. Last year's bloodwork showed beginnings of menopause, but the past 6 months have been regular periods until now. I'm not sexually active. Could the trauma of the fall and bruising change my cycle, or would these be unrelated?
Thanks much,
M
Dear M,
Any illness or trauma can affect your menstrual cycle. However, if there is any chance that you are pregnant, you should check a pregnancy test.
Sincerely,
Amy
