PCOS and metformin

I have PCOS and I have recently started taking Metformin for treatment. I have a 10 year old. Since starting Metformin, I have had a period, so it must be doing something. I worry that I will never be able to get pregnant again. Is this the right medication to take for this syndrome? Are my chances of pregnancy the same as other women who do not have PCOS, since I am being treated? It means the world to me to have another child. I hope you can give me an answer to help put my mind at ease.

Thank you,

Dear Tonya,

Only a doctor who has read your medical records could tell you if Metformin is the best treatment for you. However, Metformin is helpful to many women who have PCOS. It increases the chance of pregnancy, but does not raise it to the level of women who do not have PCOS. Your doctor can give you a better idea of the chances of conceiving in your particular case.
