HCG levels in later pregnancy

I was just wondering how accurate home pregnancy tests are the later you take them. I know your hcg level peaks at week 10, and I was just wondering if after this point a home pregnancy test is still accurate? If I am pregnant I would have taken my test at about week 14, and I was just wondering if the hormone will still by in my system.

Thanks!
Michelle

Dear Michelle,

Although the HCG level can peak between 12-16 weeks of pregnancy, it stays at 3000+ through out pregnancy. Since a home pregnancy test can detect HCG at a value of 25, the test will always be positive.

Sincerely,
Amy
