Flu shot in pregnancy

I have to get the flu shot yearly because of my employment. I just received it yesterday. Now I am not sure I should have received it. I have been trying to get pregnant but I am not sure if I am. If I am pregnant it is only a few weeks along. Is it o.k.? I have learned that is packed with mercury.

Dear J,

The flu shot is considered safe in pregnancy.

Flu shots don't have mercury. Some vaccines used to have thimerosol (a chemical that contains mercury) in them as a preservative. Under pressure from autism groups, thimerosol was removed from all vaccines. It is important to know, though, that there is no scientific evidence that autism (or any other disorder) is linked in any way to thimerosol.
