Trouble conceiving

Dear Dr. Amy,

I am a 29 year-old woman who is trying to get pregnant with my partner. We already have a child each from previous relationships and for the past two years we've been trying to get pregnant but it hasn't been a success. With my previous partner I contracted Chlamydia back in 1997 and had it treated immediately as soon as I found out. My ex-partner has recently become a father again with his new partner. I am concerned that because of the infection it has left me unable to conceive. I also have very regular periods. I feel that if another year goes by then we would have no choice but to go for Assisted Conception. Please help.

Dear LR,

If you have been trying to get pregnant for more than a year without success, there is likely to be a problem of some kind. You should make an appointment with a gynecologist or an infertility specialist for a complete evaluation. The evaluation should identify the problem, and you can consider the appropriate treatment options.
