Postpartum exam

I recently had a stillbirth at 27 weeks due to the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. I had an appointment with my doctor 2 weeks later just to talk. My doctor gave us the go ahead to start trying again, but i did not have a post partum exam to make sure everything has returned to normal. Am i suppose to have one? What would you recommend. I'm just scared because i don't want to start trying again and find out everything didn't heal and lose another one.

Thank you so much,

Dear Serena,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your son.

What happened was a rare occurence that could not have been prevented and is extremely unlikely to happen again.

A postpartum exam is usually done at 6 weeks after the birth. Doing it earlier does not give you enough time to heal. There is virtually nothing that the doctor would find that would have any impact on future pregnancies, so you do not need to be concerned about that.
