Is this miscarriage a result of a short luteal phase?

I just had a miscarriage around or under 6 weeks. Im breastfeeding and I know my luteal phase is on the short side (9-12 days) from charting so could of the miscarriage been cause by my short luteal phase? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

Thank you,

Tiff

Dear Tiff,

If you are having regular periods at least 27 days apart, you do not have a short luteal phase. Special testing (usually an endometrial biopsy) is needed to make the diagnosis of short luteal phase.

Did you need progesterone supplements in your most recent pregnancy? If not, that would also make it unlikely that you have a luteal phase deficiency.

The most common cause of miscarriage is a one time, non-repeating genetic abnormality in the embryo.

Sincerely,

Amy
