Breakthrough bleeding on Seasonale

I started taking Seasonale birth control pills about 2-1/2 months ago. As I get closer to the end of the 91 day cycle I am experiencing quite a bit of breakthrough bleeding. I never had that on other BC pills. Should I continue with the Seasonale? Or can I go back to the other kind and just skip the inert pills?

BM

Dear BM,

Seasonale is birth control pills with the inert pills removed; it's not a special type of Pill. While it works very well for some women, it does have a high incidence of breakthrough bleeding, especially with the first few packs. The breakthrough bleeding may go away by itself over the next few months, but if you find that it becomes too annoying, you can switch back to the Pill you were using before.

Sincerely,
Amy
