Bad cold during pregnancy

Dear Dr. Amy,

I just found out that I am three weeks pregnant and that I have a terrible chest cold. I am coughing so much it feels as if my lungs are gonna collapse. I was told that there is nothing I can take except tylenol. Is that true? Is that all a pregnant woman can take for a cold? There has got to be something out there I can take. Pregnant women are more apt. to getting sick, right? Thank you and hopefully you know of something I can take.

Thanks,
Jessi

Dear Jessi,

You can take cough medicine during pregnancy. However, it sounds like you may have bronchitis and need antibiotics. You should call your doctor and go in to be checked.

Sincerely,
Amy
